Sudden volume shifts are a nightmare - whispering one second, shouting the next. Any hacks?

I'm having a really frustrating issue while listening to audio. One moment the speaker is talking so softly that I have to increase the volume, and the very next moment they're shouting, making it way too loud. These sudden volume changes are really uncomfortable and I constantly have to adjust the volume manually. Is there any way to fix this or any hacks that can help keep the audio levels more consistent?

I’ve dealt with this too, and it’s definitely frustrating. One thing that helped me was enabling Loudness Equalization on my computer and using a media player with volume normalization. If you're transcribing, audio enhancement features in tools like Express Scribe can also make those volume jumps a lot easier to handle. It’s not a perfect fix, but it definitely reduces how often I have to adjust the volume manually.
