If they trail off, I use ellipses (…) to show it wasn’t finished. If someone cuts them off, I use a dash (—) to show the interruption. Basically, I focus on accuracy first. It’s not my job to guess what they meant — just to reflect the audio clearly and professionally, and follow the client’s style guide.
